Commercial Real Estate Overview

Marathon’s Commercial Real Estate group has a 28-year history of success in partnering with real estate owners and operators to provide lending solutions across the capital stack in every asset class. The group deploys capital on behalf of Marathon’s real estate, asset backed lending and opportunistic credit vehicles.

 

The Commercial Real Estate team is seeking an Associate in the London office. The successful candidate will be part of a growing strategy and play a meaningful role in the team’s success. Lean teams provide significant exposure to senior members of the business and the opportunity for direct involvement in all aspects of the investment process including analysis/underwriting, IC process, execution and post-closing portfolio management.

 

The Associate will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of real estate debt transactions investing in Europe across all property types, including:

  • New debt originations such as first mortgage loans, junior debt, B-notes and preferred equity
  • Acquisitions of performing real estate loans, CMBS and real estate corporate loans
  • Restructurings and recapitalizations

 

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the sourcing, evaluation and execution of new investments across a variety of geographies and property types
  • Prepare and present detailed investment memorandums and financial models for investment committee review
  • Conduct comprehensive due diligence, including gathering and reviewing documentation from borrowers, brokers and third parties
  • Support the structuring, negotiation, and closing of investment transactions in coordination with deal teams and legal and closing departments
  • Participate in deal pipeline management, early-stage deal screening, ongoing portfolio monitoring and reporting
  • Interface with borrowers and industry partners to ensure timely and successful transaction execution

 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance, business, mathematics, engineering, statistics or related quantitative field preferred
  • 2-4 years of experience in commercial real estate; investment banking, debt/equity advisory, acquisitions or lending experience preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modelling, as well as Power Point
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated, disciplined, responsible personality with attention to detail, high energy level and strong work ethic
  • Proactive thinking with detail-oriented and creative approach to problem solving
  • Fluency in European languages (e.g. German, French, Spanish, Italian) is a plus but not required

 

  

Base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, location, skills, training, certifications, and education, and in addition we will also consider internal equity and market data.
